Our funny story

We Are Godly & Gracious.

"Godly & Gracious isn’t just a cute catchphrase. It is something that I truly try to embody."

I wanted to create an apparel brand that tells a story and appeals to women of all ages and stages of life. My mission is to create a community and use my brand to empower women to overcome their own traumatic experiences through a process I like to call the Three E’s: Embrace. Evolve. Experience.

My name is Melanie Allen.

I was born and raised in Prince George’s County Maryland. After graduating from Bishop McNamara High School, I attended East Carolina University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biology. My career goal was to become a physician. After three semesters of college science classes, I changed my major to Psychology, in hopes of eventually becoming a psychologist. I ended up transferring to Morgan State University in the fall of 2009, where I continued my education as a psychology major.

There, I also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Upon graduating, I quickly learned that a bachelor’s degree in psychology was not enough for a “good job”. I was no longer interested in being a psychologist. I was actually quite unsure of what I wanted to do. I eventually decided to pursue a career in Human Resources but I knew that my bachelor’s degree would not suffice, so I enrolled in a graduate program at Trinity Washington University and graduated with a master’s degree in Organizational Development. I was able to transition into the Human Resources field, but I never felt fulfilled or that I belonged. I always felt that God was calling me to do more than work a 9 to 5, but I didn’t know what it was. In 2012, God had given me a vision that I would be put in a position to empower a mass of women. I thought that I was supposed to start a young adult women’s ministry at my home church but that never took off. I was confused, but I never forgot about that vision.

Fast forward to 2020, I am now an author, mentor, speaker, Certified Life Coach, entrepreneur, and mother. My path to building Godly & Gracious, LLC began in the summer of 2019, when a traumatic experience shattered everything I thought I knew. While trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, I truly learned what it means to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. My faith in God and willingness to forgive led to me discovering how to turn my pain into passion, purpose and prosperity. I knew that I wanted to create a platform to share my experience and testimony, so in April 2020, I became a Certified Life Coach.  My mission is to create a community and use my brand to empower women to overcome their own traumatic experiences through a process I like to call the Three E’s: Embrace. Evolve. Experience.

My brand was initially called Shine Forth & Prosper, but I was led to change the name. After reflecting on my personal experiences and following the direction of the Holy Spirit, I rebranded and changed the name to Godly & Gracious. For me, Godly & Gracious isn’t just a cute catchphrase. It is something that I truly try to embody. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that. What led to me expanding my brand and selling apparel was simply my love for cute shirts. I have several shirts from faith-based apparel brands and I would think to myself “what can I put on a shirt and proudly tell someone that it’s my creation?” I wanted to create an apparel brand that tells a story and appeals to women of all ages and stages of life. Whether you are rocking the Godly & Gracious tee or the Stay Pretty tee, I hope that you rock it proudly!

Be blessed, stay pretty, walk with God and glow with grace.

XO,

Melanie

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a customized shirt?

Customized shirts are available for purchase at a $7 upcharge. If you would like a customized shirt, please send an email to godlyandgracious@gmail.com with the following: name, shipping address, accent color, and shirt size.

What shirt sizes do you carry?

We carry shirt sizes S-3X.

What size shirt should I get?

Since the shirts come in men’s sizes, I recommend going one size down from your normal shirt size.

How do I care for my shirt?

You can use the regular setting on your washing machine as you would most cotton garments, however I recommend hanging up your shirt to dry to preserve the longevity of the design. Turn your garment inside out to iron.

Do you issue refunds?

Not at this time. Please be sure to select the appropriate size and design style that you want.

What is your turnaround time?

At this time, all orders are placed every Saturday. While most non-customized shirts can be produced in a matter of minutes, there is a one week turnaround time to include any customized orders. All orders are shipped one week after the Saturday that the order was placed. From there, the shipping times will vary based on location. We do not offer expedited shipping at this time.
